Ice Climber is a vertical platform video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1985. The aim of the game is to ascend a series of increasingly difficult mountain levels, breaking through layers of ice and avoiding various enemies along the way. Players control characters known as the Ice Climbers, Popo and Nana, using a hammer to destroy ice and defeat enemies. The game is widely recognized for its introduction of cooperative gameplay in a platforming format, allowing two players to play at once, each controlling one of the Ice Climbers.

The influence of Ice Climber on gaming history is noticeable, even if it is not often recognized as one of Nintendo's flagship titles. Despite its relatively modest success initially, it has since garnered a cult following and the Ice Climbers have become enduring characters in Nintendo's roster, notably appearing in the Super Smash Bros. series. The game's unique and challenging platforming mechanics were innovative for the time and have influenced numerous games since. Its combination of solo and cooperative gameplay also set a precedent for future multi-player platformers.
